Towards the top of the map, an area marked Middlesbrough
Football Ground,
was Boro's Linthorpe Road Ground, which they
occupied before they moved to Ayresome Park.
It was situated somewhere between the present Gresham Road and Princess Road. In the centre of the map, an area marked Ironopolis
Football Ground, which was known as Paradise Field, was the home of breakaway professionals 'The
Nops',
who occupied the site between 1889 and 1894. Boro
moved to Ayresome Park in 1903 on a site covering the north side of the
Ironopolis Football Ground adjacent to Oldgate Farm. Linthorpe Village was beginning to
develop at the south end of Linthorpe Road and was helped by the tramway,
which can be seen running the length of Linthorpe Road. |
